Roullete is a French game of chance that has its origins in the 17th century. It is a spin-off of an old game called hoca and portique, which was first mentioned in 1716 in Bordeaux. Its name is derived from the word “roule”, meaning little wheel.
Roulette is a table game where players place chips on the betting mat and then wait for the dealer to drop a ball onto the wheel. When the ball hits a number on the wheel, the player who bet on that number wins the money they wagered.
There are many different types of bets in roulette, and each one offers a unique payout. Depending on the type of bet, you can win either even money or a large amount of money.
The Line Bet/Six Number Bet/Sixline Bet: Also known as sixain in French, this bet is a simple way to place a bet on six consecutive numbers. It has a payout of 5-1.
Street Bet/Three Number Bet/Side Bet/The Trio: This bet involves placing chips on the outside border of a row of three consecutive numbers. If you win, the payout is 11-1.
Dozens Bet: This bet pays 2-1, but you can’t bet on all three dozen.
Odd or Even Bet: This bet is a simple wager that combines the odds of odd and even numbers. The house edge on this bet is 2.70%, which is lower than the odds of a single number, but still slightly higher than the house edge on other bets.
The American version of roulette is a different type of game than the European. It uses a wheel with two green divisions marked 0 and 00. This extra green section makes it more expensive to play than the European version of roulette.
A roulette wheel is a disk with a wheelhead that revolves around the base of a bowl. Each division on the wheel has a pocket where the roulette ball will land when it comes to rest. The wheel has 36 compartments, numbered nonconsecutively from 1 to 36 with red and black divisions, and a green division marked 0 on American tables only.
There are also a few special sections on the roulette wheel that allow players to place announced bets. These include Les Voisins du Zero, which covers the zero area of the wheel; Les Orphelins, which cover 12 numbers from 27 to 33; and Le Tiers du Cylindre, which covers a full 12-number section from 27 to 33.
If you’re new to the game, it’s important to understand how the different bets work before you start playing. This will help you make a more informed decision about which type of bet to choose and what odds to expect when you win.
